Bring transparency

Truth rarely makes it onto the label.
And sometimes, it’s not even there.

When we don’t know who’s behind our food (and what exactly goes into it), we lose connection. Trust. The confidence that we’re making informed choices.

You deserve to know what
you’re eating.

But as the food system grows more complex, it can hide more than it reveals. Traceability helps clear that up. But only if producers choose to share more, and if we, as consumers, ask for it.

The Origin shows the full story of food, from ingredients to the product you’re holding in your hands.

This way you can see:

  • where each ingredient comes from,
  • how it was made, and
  • who is behind it.

The transparency score shows how much detail a producer shares about their product.

It’s based on the following data:

    • Ingredient origins (50%) – Where ingredients were grown or produced
    • Quantities (25%) – How much of each ingredient is in the product
    • Suppliers (25%) – Who supplied the ingredients

    What is The Origin?

The Origin is a free platform for food traceability. A simple QR code reveals a product’s full story, from source to shelf. It helps us, as consumers, better understand what we’re eating and why that matters.

Why should I message a brand?

Because your voice has power. When enough people say, “We want to know more,” brands start to listen. With just one message, you can invite your favorite brand to join a more honest food system.

    Is The Origin really free?

Yes. It’s free for consumers and producers. We created The Origin to support a more transparent food system—one that gives everyone access to healthier, traceable food.

Our mission is to connect producers and consumers through openness and respect for food.

We believe everyone deserves access to trustworthy information. Learn more about why we do what we do here.

What if my favorite brand isn’t listed?

No problem! You can add your favorite brand yourself and send them an invitation. The more people do it, the better our food system becomes.

How will I know if a brand joins?

When a brand joins The Origin, their packaging will feature a QR code. We’ll also keep our brand list updated regularly on the website.
